3 players who shone against Partizan Belgrade:
Manchester United have sealed their spot in the Round of 32 of the Europa League after defeating Partizan Belgrade at Old Trafford. There were a lot of positives for United to take back on the night: a clean sheet in the competition, front 3 getting goals and assists and an overall positive display. United were threatening from the very start with Rashford having numerous chances to put to bed. Defensively the team looked quite stable with Maguire and Rojo having a decent game barring a few exceptions. This was also the first time that United have scored more than a goal in a game at Old Trafford from opening day and will be looking to take this momentum into the Premier League against Brighton on Sunday.
It was a field day for the fans of “Martial FC” as Tony seemed like a man on a mission. He started the game positively with good link up play with Rashford and Greenwood. His return from injury has lifted the spirit of the squad overall and United have looked clinical in front of goal barring the Bournemouth game. His goal was a beautifully worked piece of art with trickery and finesse leaving the Partizan defenders on the floor as the ball rolled into the net. An overall positive performance under his belt and he should be looking to maintaining this momentum on Sunday.
Mata hasn’t been in the best of forms for a while with constant criticism of his age and pace in the game. The criticism could be due to the underutilization of Juan on the right flank when his best position is as a Number 10 at the edge of the box against teams that are expected to defend deep. His link up play with Greenwood and Rashford lead to him being the orchestrator for the front 3. Rashford’s goal though wonderful was even more beautifully set up with the cross field pass to Ashley.
18 year old Mason has started gelling well into the first team with 3 goals from 4 starts. His performance last night wasn’t even the best and yet ended with him grabbing a goal and setting up one for Anthony. His calmness in front of goal makes it easier for him to bury chances into the net for the team. He should soon be setting his targets on becoming a regular in the Premier League as well.
